Gabriela Mistral prominent Chilean Nobel Prize for Literature, was a poet, diplomat and teacher. During her lifetime she was linked to education, the world of books, reading and the creation of public libraries. In her work and intellectual legacy, she conceived the book as the primary means of enabling the cultural boom in Latin America; the Library as the hub of this development and essential complement to traditional education; the Librarian, as the principal agent to develop reading, who should provide enjoyment for knowledge through free reading and direct contact with the book, being the professional that complements the work of the teacher.
