Serie N° 91: Ontología de parlamentarios chilenos autores: Modelamiento y aplicación.

Abstract

During 2013, the Library of the National Congress of Chile has been working with the new treatment standards for personal authorities, applying Resource Description and Access (RDA) and Functional Requirements for Authority Data (FRAD) to 164 registries of senators and representatives that are also authors. As a result of the incorporation of the new cataloguing regulations and functional requirements, the registries of authority have been enriched in terms of amount of information able to be added in new MARC fields. However, the recovery and visualization of such information is complex and must be accessible for all citizens. It is with this purpose that an ontological work has been modeled and developed. Its domain is of 15 registries out of the 164 mentioned above, and it contains the information found in the bibliographic system, so as to be able to offer users a better searching experience, because a tool such as ontology improves precision in recovering information, increases the amount of information that can be visualized and recovered, provides attractive visualizations for users and, most importantly, it enables the generation of relations between registries, which enriches the search experience of the user.
