In the present paper attempts to establish the degree of interest and commitment to culture and particularly with the development of public libraries that have demonstrated the rulers in Chile between 2012 and 2016; and the level of fulfillment of his campaign promises. Furthermore, it investigates the level of attention to the cultural sector with the main political parties. It is concluded that the budget for the cultural sector has experienced steady growth since the return to democracy, but that political parties pay little attention to issues related to culture and libraries.
