Signage is a form of language and communication, characterized by its symbology. This symbology is standardized and can be considered as a reflection of the culture. These symbolic systems have been built throughout history with the ability to generate communication between people and their cultural environment, whether on public roads or within an organization, including information units, such as university libraries.
In this context, the present work is framed. Its purpose is to characterize the typology of signage used in libraries of the Universidad de Santiago de Chile, determining its role and application. For this, field observation of the signage used was made, documented through observation sheets and photographs.
