This article analyzes the librarianship professional career through the perception of students in the last year of high school education in Chile, to know and establish the opinion and characteristics given by students to this career. For this, a survey was applied to 320 students from six high school educational institutions in Santiago de Chile. The indicators measured in this research through the data collection instrument refer to remuneration, employability, areas of knowledge, occupational field, activities performed by the professional, and others. The study revealed inaccuracies about the knowledge of the career along with a misconception of the librarian’s work, which is already part of the worldview of the profession. In addition, it is evident that the participants know the traditional work of the librarian, oriented to books, but are unaware of other areas of the profession development.
